Activist, author, and civil rights attorney Mónica Ramírez joined The Nation for an intimate conversation about gender-based violence and discrimination against farmworker women at work, the lack of worker protections, and strategies for improving vaccination outreach to farmworkers.

“My vision for a world where farmworkers our whole, healthy, happy, living with justice is one in which we see farmworkers first and foremost as people,” said Ramírez, who founded Justice for Migrant Women. “That we recognize their humanity, and that we understand that as humans, they deserve the very same
 protections, and that they all of the benefits that all of us deserve, and that is such a basic statement. But that is the place where we start from because that is not the experience of farmworkers across our country right now.”
