Visit iconic yet complicated Southern cities (New Orleans, Selma, Tuskegee, Savannah and Charleston), where millions of enslaved people first entered the United States, yet where African diaspora culture, instead of being totally eradicated or homogenized, was heroically preserved by former slaves and thrives today in music, food, religious and artistic traditions. Meet people who help us gain further insight into the turbulent past and those who work to preserve priceless traditions. 

March 2025: Your host for this departure will be André Robert Lee, a teacher, producer, and acclaimed documentary filmmaker who has led multiple civil-rights tours of the American South over the past several years. He directed and produced The Prep School Negro and has visited over 350 high schools, colleges, universities, and conferences with his film-based workshop. Recent work include The Road to Justice, a documentary filmed over the course of two Nation civil rights tours. See more about André

September 2024: This departure will be lead by Robin D. Perry. Robin founded his law firm, the Law Offices of Robin D. Perry & Associates in 1998, which handles numerous high profile civil and criminal matters. He lectures at seminars including the firm sponsored Summer Seminar Series, has spoken to low-income students at Long Beach Unified Schools and has served as a mentor for an underprivileged youth.  He also created the Moot Court Project with the 100 Black Men of Long Beach. The Project introduces low-income students to develop legal research, writing and persuasive advocacy skills.
