As congress inches closer to finalizing a comprehensive health care
reform effort, it’s worth it to ask, “How comprehensive?” On GRITtv,
Sharon Lerner, author of The War on Moms: On Life in a
Family-Unfriendly Nation
, points out that the latest Senate Finance
Comittee bill leaves a large loophole that enables pregnancy to count as
a pre-existing condition. “We have to say ‘we need women covered and
poor people covered,’ but we have to make sure that we see the holes and
patch them up,” she says. Also appearing is Representative Raul
Grijalva, Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, who
highlights the huge public support that exists for the public option.
“Senators, at some point, have to listen to that,” he says.
