Climate change is not just "bad weather." In fact, it fuels ethnic strife, religious violence and resource wars. Hundreds of thousands of people in already politically vulnerable places are increasingly also refugees of climate change, displaced by "natural" disasters which can then translate into violence.

The Nation‘s Christian Parenti joined Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! this morning to discuss his new book, Tropic of Chaos: Climate Change and the New Geography of Violence. For more on global warming’s violent side effects, read Parenti’s article in this week’s issue, Pakistan: One Year After the Floods.
