Chris Hayes, The Nation‘s Washington editor, visits the Rachel Maddow Show clear up some of the confusion regarding the future of the public option. According to Hayes’s reporting, the House bill will include a public option, but it is hard to know how robust it will be. The strongest version is one in which the payment rates to doctors at hospitals is Medicare plus 5 percent. In the Senate, there are 58 votes for the “opt out” version, which would stipulate that states have the option to opt out of providing a public plan. As for the White House, Hayes points out that they are not playing a “particularly productive” roll in passing a public option, despite talk that Obama supports it.
