Lisa Duggan, author of “What’s Right with Utah,” talks with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now about the gay rights movement. Forty years after Stonewall, the news coverage of the movement is focused on marriage and the military, but Duggan notes the historic ability of the LGBT movement to question structures of society even while fighting for full legal equality. As in her article, she discusses the need for employment and housing protection nationwide, as well as health care, child care, and other issues that apply to all Americans, gay and straight.
