Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel appears on Morning Joe to weigh in on the House’s Saturday evening healthcare vote. “It’s a historic day,” she declares, citing the importance of the healthcare bill in the ongoing fight for healthcare reform. She does, however, bring up two bittersweet aspects of the house bill, one being the extent to which reform is limited under the bill: “Progressives believed from the beginning that the public option was already a compromise. I believe, millions believe in medicare for all.” She also sheds light on the downsides of the Stupak amendment, prevents plans subsidized with federal dollars from covering abortionc care. “There are millions of women who feel [the bill] was passed on the backs of women,” she says, highlighting the need for revolt against this last-minute addition.
