Jeremy Scahill appears on Democracy Now! with the Hermanson family, whose son Adam was killed in Iraq while employed with Triple Canopy, the “new Blackwater.” Scahill first reported this story in The Nation this week, and explains the history of suspicious electrocution deaths in Iraq. The Hermansons tell the story of the way they learned of Adam’s death, the confusion and contradicting stories, and their concern that soldiers and contractors are dying not in battle, but in the middle of the heavily fortified Green Zone, where they should be safe. They also discuss the accountability issues for the US government when independent contractors are killed working in war zones.
