“The news this week has been bad for supporters of women’s rights in at least three parts of the world.” So began a blog post in the New York Times last Friday. One of those parts of the world was Pakistan–much in the news these days–here the flogging of a 17-year-old girl in the Swat valley, has been circulated widely on line. But what does that video say? About women’s rights around the globe and about the US role in Afghanistan?
