Maria Margaronis writes from The Nation’s London bureau. A former associate literary editor of the magazine, her work has appeared in many other publications, including The Guardian, the London Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement and The New York Times. She writes and presents radio documentaries for the BBC.
Lorraine Paterson is a Research Associate with a European Research Council project specializing in Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam and Cambodia. She has a Ph.D. in History from Yale University and an M.A. in Asian Studies from Cornell University. She has lived and worked extensively in Southeast Asia for over 25 years including three years working for CARE International and the United Nations in Cambodia. She has been leading tours for Distant Horizons for over 20 years to over ten different countries.
