Frequently Asked Questions

WHY SHOULD I DONATE WHEN I ALREADY SUBSCRIBE TO THE NATION?

Subscriptions cover less than 50% of our costs. We rely on generous donations from our readers to help make up the difference.

IS MY GIFT TO THE NATION TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?

The Nation is not a non-profit organization, so most donations aren’t tax-deductible. Donors interested in making gifts of $5,000 or above can contact us for information about making a tax-deductible gift through our fiscal sponsor.

WILL I RECEIVE A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE NATION WITH MY DONATION?

For donors who give more than $500 in a calendar year, we offer a complimentary one-year print and digital subscription as a thank you.

CAN I MAKE A GIFT IN HONOR OF SOMEONE?

You sure can. You can do so here. We will notify the recipient of your gift.

HOW CAN I SET UP A MONTHLY DONATION?

Monthly donations help us save resources and are a convenient way for donors to make a sustained, regular impact. To set up a monthly gift using your credit card or bank account, click here. Alternatively, you can send a voided check to our office or set up your gift over the phone by contacting us at 1-888-749-6171.

HOW CAN I CHANGE OR STOP BY MONTHLY DONATION?

You can update or cancel your donation through our secure recurring gift portal or by calling us at 1-888-749-6171.

CAN I DONATE IF I LIVE INTERNATIONALLY?

Yes! Many of our donors live abroad. If you are having trouble making a donation online, please contact us at [email protected].

I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL OR SOLICITATION ON BEHALF OF THE NATION. HOW CAN I MAKE SURE IT IS NOT A SCAM?

First, read through through our guide on how to spot fraud. We conduct tele-fundraising campaigns throughout the year. These campaigns are managed by Public Interest Communications (PIC), a prominent and reputable fundraising firm that has offices in Pittsburgh and Salt Lake City. If you are not sure if a phone call or solicitation came from The Nation, please contact us at [email protected].
